Repentistas -A Lot ... "Poetry and God were born on the Same Day" / Repentistas- De Repente..." Poesia e Deus nasceram no Mesmo Dia"

* A repentista is a Northeastern (north-east of Brazil, that is) singer-poet who improvises strictly metered verses accompanied only by a guitar.

*sertanejo- related to or from the country side or farmlands.

*^Bachiana- The Bachiana is a scale found in old German music and in the work of Bach, of course.

"When I came into this world I already brought the Gift in my chest ... it came in my company"... With this speech made by the inventor and apiarist of Itatira, Ceará , Manuel Juracy, my memories of the *repentista’s music quickly popped into my mind, itinerant singers that in the words of the writer and Câmara Cascudo

( 1898-1988) "... saying in song, improvised or memorized, the story of famous men of the region, major events, the adventures of hunters and the fall of bulls, facing adversaries in challenges that last hours or entire nights, in an amazing display of imagination , uniqueness and brilliance, the **sertanejo doesn’t note what’s out of tune, it notes the lack of pace. "

I share here a few minutes of this wonderful singing that comes quickly to the heart of two major repentistas: Sebastião Dias and John Paraibano.


"Quando eu vim a esse mundo já trouxe o Dom no meu peito...ele veio em minha companhia"...Com essa fala do inventor e apicultor cearense de Itatira, Manuel Juracy , rapidinho brotou na minha lembrança a música dos repentistas, cantadores itinerantes que no dizer do folclorista e escritor Câmara Cascudo
( 1898-1988) "...dizendo pelo canto , improvisado ou memorizado, a história dos homens famosos da região, os acontecimentos maiores, as aventuras de caçadas e a derrubada de touros, enfrentando os adversários nos desafios que duram horas ou noites inteiras, numa exibição assombrosa de imaginação, singularidade e  brilho ,o sertanejo  não nota o desafinado , nota a falta de ritmo."
